They Say Love Hurts

by Sakshi Sundriyal

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is expectations.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is making someone else responsible for your happiness.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is the idea of being hurt.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is assuming that there will always be sun and no rain.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is the thought of ‘forever’.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is low self-esteem.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is letting someone control how you feel.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is lack of self-confidence.

They say love hurts,

But what hurts is expectations.
